Whereas once, a lot of us looked at our current home as a temporary residence, a place where we could move into for a little while, change the colour in the kichen and remove the floorboards and bank an added 20k, things are now different. I believe we have started to see our home as a place to really invest in for the long term.
Just a decade ago, all over Britain people were buying and selling and buying and selling. People made a lot of profit from doing this seemingly easy system of searching for a new home, buying it, and then moving on. Interest rates were good, banks were lending money easily and willingly, times were splendid. We all lived happily ever after.... until, well you know the rest of the story.
Things are quite different now though and i don’t need to quote figures from The Guardian or The Times to make it quite clear what the situation is. We are all very familiar. However, and i know i risk loosing any little respect here that i do have here, but, what i like about this change is that as far i can see, we are looking to invest in our homes more. Whereas a few years a go we were investing in our homes to bring back a quick profit, now we make more of an emotional investment in our homes as our parents did.
As such, home furniture especially oak furniture is making a huge comeback. Buying oak furniture is just like making an investment. You buy oak and it lasts and lasts. Some people even pass oak furniture onto their children. Even in the ultra modern, very contemporary mood we have adopted, oak in all of its forms: oak dining room furniture, oak dining sets, oak wood, oak remains a staple.
Oak is in some ways a flexible product, it can be used in bathrooms or bedrooms as little accent pieces; it can be used in dining rooms as huge statement pieces. Whilst oak will always be more expensive then disposable furniture that you can buy on any high street, oak lasts and lasts. And if you are going to be investing in your home, as many of us are, and you want to stay there long term, buying really good quality oak will be a smart investment.
Even still, if you are moving home, it is not as if your new furniture will not be fitting.
Buying oak online has never been so popular. I think it is because we are so confident when we make the investment in this furniture, it will last for ever, which is why we are happy to part with our cash.
If you a serial online shopper like I, you too will have no qarms about buying online; many stores have a website. There are a few things that you should consider though, check out the returns policy, how much will it cost to the return the product if you are not happy with it?
So if your in the pool of people who are eager to stay on in their home for many years and want to invest in some good quality oak furniture, at great prices, rest assure that there are many good bargains to be had online.
Sabrina Khan, who admits to be an avid oak furniture buyer, here explains why we should almost invest in such products.
